About Our Board
Members
by Past Commodore Howard Hucke History
- Our
three Members of the Board of Governors, in addition to being an Advisory
Committee for our five Flag Officers, have provided an invaluable service
to our Club. Since the 1970's and 1980's, they have been tasked with
specific assignments created for the purpose of keeping our dues to a
minimum. One of these assignments is stipulated in our Constitution (Duty
Officer), and began
in the seventies when membership was low and there was need
to obtain additional funds for obvious reasons. The second (Calendar
Officer), as it
exists today, developed from the decision to rent the Club for the benefit
of our members and to add additional funds to keep our financial status in
the black. The third (Membership),
which is also a Committee stipulated in our Constitution, gave rise out
of a need to assign a Membership Chairman to take the burden off the
remainder of the Board who originally handled the solicitation and
induction of new members. Below is a short summary of these diligent and
dedicated Members of our current Board of Governors:

Member
of the Board:
Roger Smith - Membership Chairman
Roger Smith and his wife, Cindy, joined the Club in May
1990. As a member for over 18 years, Roger worked on many different
Committees, especially the House Maintenance Committee which he chaired from
1995 until 2000. In April 2003 he was appointed Fishing Fleet Captain, a
new title for our Club, and has held this title until today. In 2007 he was
nominated and elected for a 3-year term on the Board of Governors and is
presently serving his second year as Membership Chairman. In spite of the
increased number of vacancies experienced last year, he was able to bring
our membership to full capacity. His duties entail the coordination of all
records and activities relating to new members, including corresponding with
proposed members, arranging interviews, preparing membership packets and
scheduling the induction of new members at General Membership Meetings. By
maintaining as full a quota as possible, this position on the Board also
insures that new revenues come in to keep our present dues as low as
possible. Roger is hoping that you, as members, will continue to encourage
local boaters, fishing buddies and interested parties to become new members
and enjoy full Club privileges as we all do today.
Member of
the Board:
Paul Cona - Calendar Officer
Paul Cona and his wife, Roberta have been members of the
Club for over 16 years. To date, Paul has completed three consecutive
3-year terms on the Board. In 2008 he was again elected for a fourth
3-year term and is presently serving his second year as Calendar Officer.
During these past ten years, he has done a fine job coordinating Club
activities with the various Committees and setting up rentals for private
parties for our members and their families, bringing in additional
revenues to our Club. Over the years, Paul has also been involved in many
projects, mainly the construction of the new Marina and the expansion of
the Clubhouse. Several years ago, he addressed the problem of flooding in
front of the Clubhouse recommending and successfully managing the
installation of a new drainage system. And, during the recent renovation
of the Club Room, both he and Roberta spent many hours assisting the
various Committees with their work. This year, Paul hopes you
will consider renting our beautiful Club for your private party during the winter months.
Member
of the Board
Fred Sterbenz - Duty Officer
Fred Sterbenz and his wife, Mary Alice joined the Club in
1989. During their first ten years, they participated in many of the
activities of the House, Grounds and Marina Committees, offering support
and assistance whenever needed, such as the construction of the new
boardwalk in the late 1990's. In 1994, Fred served on the Nominating
Committee, and has served numerous times since then. He is also credited
with setting up our lending library in the Club hallway. In 1999, he was
elected Secretary and in 2000 was re-elected to this office. During these
years he took myriads of minutes with regard to the installation of the
new docks and the expansion of the Club. The following year, he was
nominated and elected Commodore for the 2001-02 fiscal year. During his
tenure in office, he encouraged and assisted with the establishment of our
new Website, set up a new budgeting and bookkeeping system, and provided
excellent leadership for his Board and the many Chairpersons who, it is
reported, did a superb job in getting things done that year. This year,
Fred was elected to the Board of Governors for a 3-year term as Duty
Officer. His responsibilities include recording of all work hours
completed and reporting them to the Board in a timely fashion. This task
is also one that assures our financial stability since, as you know, work
hours help to keep maintenance and service costs, and our dues, as low as
possible. Fred asks for your full support by completing and submitting
your much needed work hours on time.
